Re-Mission Frequently Asked Questions

Question:    Do you have a console version of the game such as the Microsoft Xbox, Sony PlayStation or Nintendo GameCube?

Answer:      At this time Re-Mission is only available for Windows PC's.  However, HopeLab continuously looks for new and innovative ways to reach our target audience.  Please feel free to visit our website for updates.

Question:    I keep trying to order the game and make a donation, but I'm receiving an error message that says my credit card numbers are incorrect.  Is there something I am doing wrong?

Answer:       The error message you received that says the numbers you entered are incorrect may be referring to the image security code numbers, not your credit card numbers.  Try ordering the game again. About halfway down the form is a graphic image with letters in it.  Next to the image is an empty field.  Type into the empty field the letters you see in the image.   Complete all the other fields and your order should go through.  If you continue to experience problems, please let us know by leaving us a tech support email using the form at http://www.re-mission.net/site/support/.

Question:    I get to disc 2, 3, or 4 during the install process and a directory comes up that lists a cab file on it.  I'm stuck and can't finish the installation.  What should I do?

Answer:       Occasionally when you put in disc 2, 3, or 4 of the Re-Mission game, a Windows directory comes up displaying the cab file on the disc.  If this happens, use your mouse and move the directory window off to one side (or use the minimize button "_" in the upper right corner to minimize the directory window) in order to reveal the Re-Mission install screen underneath.  You should now be able to click OK to continue the Re-Mission install.

If this happens again when the next disc is inserted, simply repeat the above instructions and continue the install.

Question:    I have Windows Vista and am receiving a "Feature Transfer Error" during installation.  Is there a work-around?

Answer:       There are a few solutions that may resolve the issue.  First, ensure that the surface of the disc(s) are clean.  They should appear mirror-like.  Use a soft cloth and wipe from the center ring outward to clean any dirt or fingerprints from the disc.  If this does not resolve the issue, here are some specific solutions for Windows Vista which may correct the problem

1.   Right-click the setup.exe file in your CD or DVD drive and select "run

      as administrator"

2.   Right-click the setup.exe file in your CD or DVD drive and select XP or

      2000.

3.   Create a folder named Re-Mission in the C:Program Files folder.

4.   Copy the files from the CD's or DVD to a new folder on your desktop

      and install from there.

Question:    I recieved the English 3-CD version of Re-Mission, and during installation of disc #2 a CRC error occurs, so installation cannot continue.  How can I complete installation?

Answer:       Between approximately August 20th and September 20th of 2007, a limited quantity of English 3-CD versions of Re-Mission shipped with a physical defect on disc #2 which does not allow for complete installation.  Please contact Customer Support or email webmaster@re-mission.net to receive either a free replacement of disc 2, or a new full version of Re-Mission on CD or DVD.

Question:    When trying to start Re-Mission or while playing the game , I'm dropped back into the Windows desktop.  Why is this happening?

Answer:       The most common reason for this problem is that the computer does not meet the minimum requirements to run Re-Mission.  The minimum specifications for the game are listed at the top of this page.

Other possible reasons are:

1.      A third-party application is running in the background such as an antivirus or spyware program.  Try turning these types of programs off and running Re-Mission again.

2.      The video driver is out of date and needs to be updated.  Go to your video card's website and make sure you have the latest video driver.

3.      The game was originally installed under one user name, but being played under a different user name.  If your computer does have more than one user login name, be sure to play the game under same user name as it was installed.

Question:    Is there a Mac version of the game?  Does it work with the new Intel-based Macs?

Answer:       At this time Re-Mission is only available for Windows PC's.  While there is a new Intel-based version of the Mac that runs Windows XP, Re-Mission has not been tested with these computers.

Question:    I registered with your website and ordered the game, but never received it.  How can find out what happened to my order?

Answer:       There are a couple things that you can try to correct the problem.

  1. First go back to our Order Now! page and try re-ordering the game.  If you receive a message that says you already ordered the game, you need to contact us.  Use our tech support forms at http://www.re-mission.net/site/support/ to let us know you did not receive your order.
  2. If the Order Now! page does allow you to reorder the game, make sure all of your information is correct.  Also, about halfway down the form there is a check box that says, "I wish to make a donation to HopeLab, but do not require a copy of Re-Mission."  Be sure not to check this box if you do want a copy of the game.

Question:     When I try to update the Re-Mission program, I'm receiving an error message that says, "A connection to the Patch Server could not be acquired.  Please check for updates at www.re-mission.net (Dial-up users: If you are experiencing problems, please try connecting before running Re-Mission.)"  What should I do?

Answer:       At this time there are no new updated versions of the Re-Mission game.  In reference to the error message, it should tell you that your version of Re-Mission is up to date.  If you continue to receive the error message mentioned above, please make sure you are connected correctly to the internet.  If you are on a dial-up, please connect to your provider first and then run Re-Mission.

Question:    During the install, the System Check says that one or more of the specifications of my computer does not meet the minimum requirements for Re-Mission.  Can I still run the game?

Answer:      While we cannot guarantee that the game will run properly on systems which do not meet the minimum specifications, Re-Mission may still operate, but overall performance may be affected.

Question:    In Windows 98 or Windows ME, the graphics in the game has overlapping sections and flickers on the screen.

Answer:      If you are using an NVIDIA chip based video card, you might need to upgrade your video driver.  Check the NVIDIA website for the latest drivers at: http://www.nvidia.com/page/home. Also, try different screen resolutions.  This can be set from the Main Menu/Options/Video.  A minimum resolution setting of 640x480 may correct the problem.

Question:    How can I bypass the Cinematic Movies played during a mission?

Answer:      The Cinematic Movies cannot be bypassed the first time playing a mission.  However, when replaying a mission, a cinematic movie seen before can be bypassed at anytime by pressing the spacebar.

Question:    My Joypad/Joystick is only partially responding to the controls or not responding at all.

Answer:      The Joypad/Joystick needs to be inserted into the USB port before the computer is turned on.  Try shutting down the computer and restarting it while the controller(s) are connected.

Question:    My Joypad Controller does not vibrate when Roxxi receives damage.

Answer:      Make sure the feature is checked under Main Menu/Options/Controller/Player 1/More Options.  Also, if your controller or controller's USB adapter requires drivers, be sure they are installed and you are using the latest version.

Downloading Re-Mission

Question:        My download won't begin, what's going on?

Answer:          There can be a number of issues which cause a download not to begin.  The most common reasons are very high internet traffic or your internet service provider is having an issue.  Try viewing other websites to see if you experience delays in page loading.  If you do, try checking your internet connectivity via the Command Prompt.  If you determine you are having internet issues, please contact your internet service provider for further assistance.

Step-by-Step connectivity check:

  1. Left-click the 'Start' menu button in the lower left of your screen.
  2. Left-click the 'Run...' button.
  3. Type 'cmd' into the text-box which appears and select 'OK'
  4. In the window which appears type 'ping www.yahoo.com' and hit the Enter key.  Do the same for www.google.com and www.espn.com.  Take note of the Ping Statistics and round-trip times in each case.  If any packets sent out are not received back, there is a high percentage loss of received packets, or there are any unusually high times (1000ms or greater), it is likely that you are having connection issues and should contact your internet service provider for assistance.

Question:       My download won't begin, and it's not related to internet traffic or my internet service provider.  What do I do now?

Answer:          A cable may have come loose from the wall, your PC, your cable or DSL modem, or router.  Check the Ethernet and power cable connections to be sure they are all securely plugged in.  If all the cables are connected, your router and modem may need to be rebooted. See below for instructions.

Step-by-Step router and modem reboot:

1.       Turn off the modem via the power button on the back of it.

2.       Unplug the power cable from the back of the router (if you have one).

3.       Wait 30 seconds and then turn the modem back on.

4.       Once the modem has reset (you should see two solid lights; power and data), plug the router back in.

5.       Once the internet light on the router begins to light up, everything should be ready; try your download again.

Question:        My download won't begin, and it's not related to internet traffic, my internet service provider, and my local hardware is working just fine.  What else can I do?

Answer:          There are some issues which can cause a download to not initiate; listed below are the most common ones.

1.       If you are using a pop-up blocker (such as the Google Toolbar or similar), temporarily disable the pop-up blocker  and try your download again.

2.       If you are using a firewall program, temporarily disable this program and try your download again.*

3.       If you are using  a screensaver, temporarily disable your screensaver and try your download again.

4.       If you are using a "download manager program", temporarily disable this program and try your download again.

*Your firewall may either be on your router (if you are using one), within Windows Vista and Windows XP (if you have Service Pack 2), or an independent software firewall such as Norton or McAfee.  If you are familiar with your PCs firewall you may configure it to allow downloads from www.re-mission.net rather than temporarily disabling the firewall.

Question:       My download was interrupted, and I have to start again.  Is there a way to just resume from where it left off?

Answer:         In most cases it's possible to resume a download from where it left off provided you have a download manager installed on your machine. There are a number of reliable and free download managers available, such as FDR or  wxDownload Fast.  You may also visit CNET Network's site www.download.com to search for other download managers and read user reviews to find one that best suits your needs.

Question:        Everything is fine on my end, but I still can't download the game.  Maybe the problem is at www.re-mission.net?

Answer:          If you have tried other solutions and are still experiencing problems, it is possible that the problem is on our end.  Please click here to report the problem to our webmaster, or email us at webmaster@re-mission.net.
